GSR56 Adapter
An adapter that allows an installed ADL device to slide into the existing Garmin GSR56
mounting tray. The GSR56 is Garmin's Iridium satellite weather datalink receiver, found
in many Garmin-equipped aircraft.
Many owners find the GSR56 service expensive (roughly double the ADL running costs)
and are looking for an alternative.
True Plug & Play
Slides into existing GSR56 tray
Uses existing Iridium antenna and power connections
No tools required
Can be swapped back and forth with original GSR56 in seconds
No modifications to the aircraft
Recommended ADL Device
ADL150B is the recommended choice:
Most affordable option
Best fit since most aircraft with GSR56 already have ADS-B traffic capability
RS232 / Flight Plan
RS232 port wired through to the ADL device
Flight plan transfer from GTN750 etc. to ADL works
Important: Weather Display
Weather data does NOT flow back to Garmin avionics via this RS232 path.
Weather display on GTN, G1000, G3X is only possible via the wireless FIS-B path
through a Garmin GTX345 transponder.
Antenna Connector
The GSR56 uses a TNC antenna connector while ADL devices use the smaller SMA connector.
The adapter handles this conversion.
Typical Aircraft
Cirrus SR22 (Garmin Perspective)
Diamond DA42/DA62
Other aircraft with Garmin avionics and GSR56
Cost Comparison
GSR56 Iridium service: roughly double the ADL system running costs
ADL150B + adapter is a significantly cheaper long-term solution
Compatible: ADL150B/190/200
